Water absorption and hydrothermal ageing of epoxy adhesives reinforced with amino-functionalized graphene oxide nanoparticles

Abstract The study is focused on quantitative characterization of water absorption and hydrothermal ageing effects in a room-temperature amine cured epoxy adhesive widely used in automotive, aerospace, construction, and marine industries. Amino-functionalized graphene oxide (mGO) nanoparticles were incorporated into the epoxy (up to 1.72 wt.%) enabled cross-linking reactions and providing high interfacial adhesion, superior reinforcement efficiency and enhanced resistance to hydrothermal ageing of nanocomposites. Modifications of optical absorption band of center in silica

Abstract We report an experimental study of the modifications induced by gamma ray irradiation and by thermal treatment of both the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and the optical absorption spectra of the E γ ′ center in silica. Our data show that the main g-values of E γ ′ EPR signal change as a function of the irradiation dose together with a red shift of the peak position of the absorption band around 5.8 eV attributed to the same center. Changes in the opposite direction are observed in both signals after thermal treatments. The peak position change of the optical absorption band is in quantitative agreement with the g-values shift. 230Th/U-dating of a late Holocene low uranium speleothem from Cuba

We present 22 U-series ages for a stalagmite from north-western Cuba based on multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) and thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (TIMS). Our results reveal that the stalagmite continuously grew within the last ~1400a. Low uranium content of the sample and thus, extremely low 230Th concentrations limit the precision and accuracy of 230Th/U-dating by TIMS. Samples measured by MC-ICPMS show a high variability of 232Th content along the growth axis with some sections significantly affected by initial 230Th from a detrital phase. An a-priori bulk earth ratio for (238U/232Th) cannot be used to accurately account for this initial 230Th.…

Thermal stability of transition alumina nanocrystals with different microstructures

Abstract The preparation of well-crystallized boehmite nanoparticles with different morphologies, encompassing from aciculae or rods of 320, 150 and 70 nm of length to platelets of 50 nm in diameter, allowed a comparative study of their respective thermal evolutions as alumina precursors. Static thermal treatments of boehmite nanocrystals at 600, 1000 and 1200 °C and a dynamic, in situ synchrotron study between 100 and 1000 °C revealed that original boehmite microstructures, i.e. size and shape of the nanoparticles, were kept not only in γ-Al 2 O 3 but also in transitional aluminas up to 1000 °C. Geochemistry of REE, Zr and HF in a wide range of pH and water composition: The Nevado del Ruiz volcano hydrothermal system (Colombia)

International audience; The geochemical behaviour of Rare Earth Elements, Zr and Hf was investigated in the thermal waters of Nevado del Ruiz volcano system. A wide range of pH, between 1.0 and 8.8, characterizes these fluids. The acidic waters are sulphate dominated with different Cl/SO4 ratios. The important role of the pH and the ionic complexes for the distribution of REE, Zr and Hf in the aqueous phase was evidenced. The pH rules the precipitation of authigenic Fe and Al oxyhydroxides producing changes in REE, Zr, Hf amounts and strong anomalies of Cerium. Electronic properties of Co2MnSi thin films studied by hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

This work reports on the electronic properties of thin films of the Heusler compound Co2MnSi studied by means of hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES). The results of photoelectron spectroscopy from multilayered thin films excited by photons of 2?8?keV are presented. The measurements were performed on (substrate/buffer layer/Co2MnSi(z)/capping layer) multilayers with a thickness z ranging from 0 to 50?nm. It is shown that high energy spectroscopy is a valuable tool for non-destructive depth profiling. Thermoelectric properties of CoTiSb based compounds

Several CoTiSb based compounds were synthesized and investigated on their thermoelectric properties. The aim was to improve the thermoelectric properties of CoTiSb by the systematic substitution of atoms or the introduction of additional Co into the vacant sublattice. The solid solutions Co1+xTiSb, Co1?yCuyTiSb and CoTiSb1?zBiz were synthesized. X-ray diffraction was used to investigate the crystal structure.
